About Us

Direct Native Plants was born out of desire to get native plants into more backyards — not just in faraway woodlands and wetlands!

We already had success (20+ years strong now) in expanding the use of native plants to the restoration/reforestation industry with our parent company, American Native Plants. However, we wanted to do more.

Knowing that gardeners, eco-enthusiasts and people who enjoy wildlife would make the same commitment we did to Mother Nature in their own backyards, we started Direct Native Plants.

Our Second Location
Now serving you from
Middle River, MD and Woodstock, IL.
We are excited to share that we have opened a second location in Woodstock, Illinois! This expansion will allow Direct Native Plants to better serve the Midwestern United States. With a second location, we can now offer faster ship times and more economical shipping rates to a wider range of native plant lovers. We have also expanded our plant palette! Select perennials native to the Midwest are available exclusively from our location in Woodstock. As we continue to grow, so will our plant selection. We look forward to serving you as we all work towards a healthier planet for future generations to enjoy.
Please Note: We are a mail order native plant retailer. Neither location is open to the public. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Why Use Direct
Native Plants?

Native plants contribute to ecological biodiversity, create sustainable wildlife habitat, and restore and replenish clean waterways.

use less water

Native plants have adapted to local growing conditions, and once established they can thrive on natural precipitation patterns, needing little supplemental irrigation.

By planting native plants instead of monoculture lawns, you can help provide the space, food, and shelter needed for a complete wildlife habitat.

Native plants support a wide variety of native insects, which in turn support larger animals, creating an expansive food web of interconnected species.

What our customers say about us

"Everything arrived in excellent condition! Will definitely be ordering from here again. I love that they have a section for keystone species on their website, too.”

“I wish I had discovered this place years ago! I ordered several plants and they all came in excellent condition, and within a day of being shipped. This will be my go-to nursery for all things native!”

“I have spent $$$$ on the plants here because they have never disappointed me even once. Look no further for your native plant source. All plants arrive healthy, big, and wet. Their customer service is top quality. It's a quality local company that deserves your quality support. Ever since I started transforming my yard with help from their plants. I saw insects I haven't seen in years. I could not be happier.”
