Lead Plant (Amorpha canescens) is a deciduous semi-shrub that grows naturally on streambanks, woodlands, and prairies. In late spring its terminal spikes will bloom in clusters of tiny purple flowers. Its showy, alternate pinnately compound leaves and stems are covered in dense hairs giving the leaves a silvery tint. This coloring makes it appear as if the plant has been dusted in lead, thus the common name. It attracts a variety of pollinators and is a larval host to the Leadplant Flower Moth, making it a great addition to native and butterfly gardens.

Direct Native Plants ships from our nurseries in Middle River, Maryland, and Woodstock, Illinois. Orders are shipped via FedEx Ground from these locations and typically arrive at most destinations within two (2) business days from the day they ship.

To get your plants to you as quickly and efficiently as possible, we ship orders based on current inventory availability and your proximity to our nurseries. This helps ensure faster delivery and the best experience for your order. In some cases, items in the same order may ship from different locations.
