Flame Azalea (Rhododendron calendulaceum) is a large, deciduous shrub that grows naturally on woodland slopes and mountain balds. Its most striking feature is the showy funnel-shaped flowers that grow in clusters of 5-10. These flowers vary in color from yellow to orange to red, and they are a valuable nectar source for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. In fall, the foliage is an attractive but subdued yellow/red. Flame azalea is often used as an ornamental specimen or as a hedge.
