Coastal Azalea (Rhododendron atlanticum) is a small, deciduous shrub that grows naturally in moist, flat pine woods and coastal savannas. It usually only grows 2-3 feet tall, hence its other common name, Dwarf Azalea. The showy, white, tubular flowers appear in spring and are often flushed with pink. The blooms are highly fragrant and attract bees, hummingbirds, and other native pollinators. Coastal Azalea has distinct blue-green leaves, and it is often used as an accent, border, or hedge in native gardens.
