Carolina Jessamine (Gelsemium Sempervirens) is an evergreen vine that grows naturally in wooded areas and thickets, growing up tree trunks. It has fragrant yellow flowers that bloom in late winter to early spring, attracting the Spicebush Swallowtail, hummingbirds, and other native pollinators. The vine itself is thin, wiry, and rust-colored with glossy evergreen leaves that may turn slightly yellow or purple in the winter. Carolina Jessamine can be trained to grow on trellises or left to grow as a shrubby groundcover. Please note that Carolina Jessamine is poisonous to humans and livestock.
