Wild Blue Phlox (Phlox divaricata) is a beautiful herbaceous wildflower featuring clusters of blue to purple flowers that grow on stems 6-12 inches high. It grows naturally in rich woods, fields, and along streams. Wild Blue Phlox prefers moist, well-drained soil and should be planted in partial to full shade. This plant attracts many pollinators, making it an excellent addition to a butterfly garden. It is a larval host for at least 8 species of moths and butterflies, including the Phlox moth and Swallowtail butterflies (shown above). It is suggested to cut back the stems after flowering to help avoid mildew.
