Umbrella Magnolia (Magnolia tripetala) can be recognized by its large 10-24 inch leaves clustered at the end of stems, hence the name ‘umbrella’! This usually multi-trunked deciduous tree is not a fan of soil extremes, either wet or dry, and it should be planted somewhere that is protected from strong winds. Pollinators love the large white flowers that the Umbrella Magnolia boasts, and birds and mammals use the fruit and seeds as a food source. While some can get up to 45 feet tall, this tree usually grows to about 30 feet.
