Tussock sedge (Carex stricta) is a rhizomatous evergreen perennial that grows in dense clumps. It is an emergent aquatic that is primarily found in wet swales, marshes, bogs, wet meadows and along waterways. Flowers appear in late spring in reddish-brown spikes on stems rising above the foliage. It is best planted in large groups for the full, clumped foliage effect. Tussock Sedge is also quite effective as an accent for small gardens, and as a groundcover in moist shade. A major pro to this grass is that it is deer and erosion resistant. Overall this plant would be an excellent addition to any garden, especially a rain garden.
