Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) is a luscious shrub that can grow to be 3-5 feet tall, and 3-5 feet wide. This cold-hardy plant is adorned with large clusters of tiny white flowers in the summer, and its usually green leaves turn a lovely shade of yellow in the fall. Smooth Hydrangea prefers partial shade and medium, well-drained soil. It is a great choice for a rain or shade garden, and pruning helps promote flowering. It serves as a larval host for the Hydrangea Sphinx Moth, in addition to attracting a number of butterflies, moths and other pollinators. It should be noted that Smooth Hydrangea has a low flammability rating.
