Marginal Wood Fern (Dryopteris marginalis) is a woodland evergreen fern most often found in damp, shady crevices of rocky ledges, or in dense forest conditions. It has grey-green leathery fronds that provide year-round ground cover and color, perfect for a winter garden. In addition to providing nest materials for native birds, this 1 – 3 foot hardy fern is a larval host for the Conifer Swift Moth (shown above), among others. It thrives in deep or partial shade and in moist, acidic soil, preferably in an area that is protected from the wind.

Direct Native Plants ships from our nurseries in Middle River, Maryland, and Woodstock, Illinois. Orders are shipped via FedEx Ground from these locations and typically arrive at most destinations within two (2) business days from the day they ship.

To get your plants to you as quickly and efficiently as possible, we ship orders based on current inventory availability and your proximity to our nurseries. This helps ensure faster delivery and the best experience for your order. In some cases, items in the same order may ship from different locations.
