Golden Alexander (Zizia aurea) is a multi-flower perennial that grows naturally in small colonies in moist woodlands, prairies and glades.  In late spring small yellow flowers bloom in clusters on flat-topped flower heads. In the fall these flowers give way to long green fruit capsules. Its leaves are compound and finely serrated. Both the fruit capsules and the leaves can turn a light purple giving fall interest. Golden Alexander is an ideal choice for rain gardens and pollinator gardens. It is a larval host plant for the Black Swallowtail Butterfly.
