Cucumber Magnolia (Magnolia acuminata) is a large, deciduous tree that grows to be about 40-70 feet tall and prefers moist, well-drained soil in full to partial sunlight. It produces beautiful tulip-like, greenish-yellow flowers in spring. The Cucumber Magnolia is named for the small, green, cucumber-like fruits that appear after the spring flowers. These fruits mature to a lovely red color and are an important food source for birds and small mammals. The leaves turn an attractive gold in the autumn, making it a multi-season sensation.
