Carolina Lupine (Thermopsis caroliniana) is an upright, clump-forming perennial that grows naturally in open woods, meadows and road banks. It has showy racemes of bright yellow flowers that bloom in early to mid summer. Flowers give way to ornamental seed pods that provide continuing fall interest. The distinct trifoliate leaves are  grayish-green with velvety undersides. Carolina Lupine is both drought tolerant and deer resistant, making it a perfect easy-to-grow perennial for borders and pollinator gardens.  It attracts a variety of  pollinators and is a larval host for the Wild Indigo Duskywing butterfly.
