Bigtooth Aspen (Populus grandidentata) Â is a fast-growing deciduous tree that plays an important role in restoring recently disturbed landscapes, including areas that have been logged or affected by fire. Its extensive root system helps stabilize soil, while its rapid growth provides shelter for slower-establishing plant species. Silvery-gray catkins emerge before the leaves in early spring, standing out against the bare branches and providing early-season interest. In autumn, the foliage turns a brilliant golden yellow, bringing vibrant color to the landscape. Bigtooth Aspen readily spreads through both seed and root suckers, often forming attractive groves over time. This species attracts a variety of pollinators and serves as a larval host plant for both the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and Viceroy butterflies.
