Appalachian Sedge (Carex appalachica) is a clump-forming perennial sedge commonly found in dry, shady woods. Its long, thin leaves flow into an arching foliage that is joined by small flower stalks with tiny starburst-shaped green blooms in the spring. It makes an excellent soft, low maintenance ground cover or lawn alternative for dry shady areas and is both deer and rabbit resistant. Appalachian Sedge is an important larval host for a variety of native butterflies. This is a great addition for shade gardens and difficult locations where other plants may be hard to establish.
